Gay West Community Network
Inc. - Governed by a ten member Board of Directors. as
an all-volunteer driven not-for-profit centre, connecting queer residents,
business and community groups in High Park, Liberty Parkdale, Davenport,
Trinity Bellwoods west central Toronto, Ontario neighbourhoods since 2001
Incorporated as a Charity on April 7, 2008. Election of Officers and passing
of Bylaws took place Monday April 28, 2008.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Bryen Dunn, President
Toronto Freelance jounalist, focus on adventure, ecotourism, lifestyle
and entertainment.He has been writing for over 15 years for trade and
consumer publications, both online and print. In addition he has worked
with many tour operators and tourist boards to assist with marketing and
promotional initiatives.Bryen can also be heard regularly on CIUT 89.5
FM in Toronto, as host of the weekly program Sex City.
Michel Paré, Vice President and Founder
Toronto, works part-time as an web editor for a Canadian Environmental
Policy Institute. He is Publisher of queer Toronto Inside Story eNewspaper.
Previous career, running his own Toronto management and consulting (Professional
Organizing) business. Michel has been a gay rights activist in Toronto,
for close to 28 years. He served as a board member with the Fort York
Food Bank and is a past president of Gay Equality in Mississauga
Shani Betz, Vice President
Toronto, Operations Manager, Silver Lining Ltd. Has over 15 years of management
experience in Marketing, Sales, Corporate Training, Web Development, Research
& Development, and Operations Management. She has worked in the Mining,
Advertising, Franchise and Call Centre industries. When she’s not
working, she enjoys writing and has written for several magazines including
Target Marketing, Job Postings Magazine, Native Careers and CanCon. She
is also a published poet and is working on a novel which she hopes to
have completed by her 80th birthday (hey, she’s a realist!)
John Colautti, Treasurer
Toronto, Consultant Parkdale Village Business Improvement Area (BIA).
John has been living in the Parkdale-High Park area for over 18 years
with his life partner, Greg McPhee and has been an active member of the
community. His background includes mediation and dispute resolution. John
is a former president of the Parkdale Village Resident’s Association,
former Ward 14 (Parkdale) constituency assistant.
Catherine Jean Nash, Secretary
Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at Brock University
in St. Catharines Ontario. Her area of interest is urban social and cultural
geography with a focus on sexuality, gender and space, as well as queer,
feminist and trans geographies. Professor Nash currently teaches Social
Justice Theory. Her membership on the Queer West Board reflects her ongoing
commitment to and interest in the historical and cultural availability
and accessibility of urban space for all individuals.
Matthew Cutler, Board member
Executive Assistant to the Executive Director, Central Toronto Youth Services.
Founding Chairman of OUTniagara. Matt brings a wealth of experience and
knowledge to his role as a Queer West Director. Having worked with organizations
as diverse as the World Bank, Scouts Canada and the World Congress on
the Health of Youth and Children, Matthew has made an undeniable contribution
to Canadian society and in 2002 was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Commemorative
Medal. A member of the Niagara Imperial Sovereign Court and (past) director
AIDS Niagara.
Gilbert Estephan, Board member
Sales and Sponsorship Manager with Green Living Enterprises. Has extensive
experience includes working with non-profit boards and stakeholders, specifically
in the areas of fundraising, corporate gift giving, sponsorships and event
management including live events and festivals. Gilbert brings a wealth
of knowledge to Queer West as a Board Member, with his dedication to many
community events including; An Enchanted Evening for Sick Kids Foundation,
Essentia – A World of Wines for the Asthma Society of Canada, Fashion
Takes Action benefitting Environmental Defence, including his involvement
with Canada's largest AIDS Fundraiser, Fashion Cares.
Nate Fuks, Board member, Chair of Queer Peers Committee
Toronto Senior Consultant, Strategy and Operations, Deloitte & Touche
(Consulting). As the five term President of the OU International Humanitarian
Help foundation, Nate successfully initiated and implemented a number
of CSR initiatives. His fund-raising, community development, and awareness
building experience, made the advancement of Canadian values of global
citizenship, equity, and environmental sustainability an important part
of Nate’s decision to join the Queer West's Board of Directors.
Tam Khuu, Board member
Manager, Revenue Reporting, Cookie Jar Entertainment Inc., Toronto, Ontario.
Warren Kennedy, Board member
Manager – Residential Relocations, Armstrong Moving & Storage Ltd (Mississauga
branch) Publicly elected and re-elected having served two terms as a Public
School Board Trustee representing the largest municipal electoral ward
in the City of Mississauga

change) from 7 PM to 8:30 PM) at the Masaryk-Cowan Community and Recreation

Queer Arts Festivals: Gay West Community Network Inc..
and Triple-X Productions are again teaming up to bring
Toronto its 3rd alternative Festival for queer arts, culture and music.
Having successfully coordinated several LGBTTIQ2S Pride focused events
over the past ten years, 2008 marks the first year that a series of events
are being presented over the course of 10 days Friday June 13 to Sunday
June 22nd., as part of new Queer
West Fest. Which is about cultural diversity as well as sexual diversity
(diverse cité). This is not the Toronto Pride Festival. Queer West
Fest is completely different.
